Google Gemini AI Image Model Gets Major Bananas Upgrade

People all over the world are trying the upgrades released for the image editing model from Google’s DeepMind. So much so that it has currently become the highest-rated image editing model in the world. And Google has integrated this upgraded model into Gemini now.

Gemini is Google’s largest and most capable AI model which is now head-to-head with ChatGPT and Claude with its fierce image-editing upgrade. The Gemini AI Image Model is known as the “Nano Banana” while its official name is “Gemini 2.5 Flash Image”. The purpose is to keep the essence of the image intact while editing the pictures; it is integrated right into the Gemini app. So, what can you expect from the Gemini Bananas Update?

New Features In Google Gemini AI Image Model

New Features In Google Gemini AI Image Model

The Gemini Bananas Update focuses primarily on maintaining the subject’s likeness from one image to another. For example, if you want to generate a couple of pictures where you are in different scenarios, trying out different outfits, or want to see how you’d look once you have aged, while retaining your original features. Let’s see how the upgraded Gemini AI image model works.

Maintain The Consistency Of The Character

Asking chatGPT or xAI’s Grok to alter someone’s shirt color will most probably generate an altered background or distort the face. But, Google has raised the bar a bit high with its Gemini image generation. Now, you can upload multiple images and blend them to create a fresh image. Google Gemini AI Image Model is now capable of understanding and merging multiple photos — all while maintaining the consistency of the characters.

For example, you can take your picture and your pet cat’s image to generate a portrait of you standing in a football field while preserving the original features of you and your pet.

Blend Multiple Images Into One Or Edit In Different Stages

Google says that the update makes editing seamless while keeping the usability of the output with a hope that it would close the gap with OpenAI’s image AI.

The Gemini Bananas update allows you to blend multiple images into one or edit one image in multiple steps. You can now edit an empty room by painting the walls, adding the furniture, and continue to edit until you have achieved the desired settings. You can do all this while preserving the rest of the image.

The update also enables generative AI to read and understand hand-drawn diagrams, help with the questions related to the real world, and follow complex instructions to edit the image in a single step.

Use Prompt To Edit The Image

Google says that now users have creative control to get what they want from the model — but anything. There are certain prohibitions for the Gemini text-to-image generative AI section. The model does not generate “non-consensual intimate imagery” that apparently didn’t exist for Grok as it allowed users to generate AI-generated explicit images of celebrities.

The upgrade, however, allows users to turn a selfie into a portrait. For example, if you upload a selfie of yours and ask to generate an image of a girl in a gown holding flowers, Gemini Bananas update will not change your face and keep the vibes alive in the picture. Apart from that, you can also check how an outfit would look on your before purchasing it. The virtual clothes try-on feature will allow you to remove old clothes and put on the new clothes.

The results were good, but it may appear a bit pixelated and the image quality may compromise a bit. All in all, this new feature is great to observe the extent to which image-editing can be automated.

How To Use The Updated Gemini Image Generation Model?

How To Use The Updated Gemini Image Generation Model?

To use Nano Banana AI, you need to have access to Gemini. To use Gemini, you can use it on the web interface:

  • Open your browser and enter the url address of Gemini which is gemini.google.com
  • Look for the image ai tool next to the prompt bar and select Create Images; you can also click on Try Now when a banner also pops up with text “Make more magical images with enhanced image editing.”
  • Now, you can upload your pictures and leverage the Gemini AI image update to create pictures you want to generate.

Does It Raise Concerns Over Deepfake Imagery?

The Nano-Banana AI image model has raised concerns over the generation of deepfake images. The modes allow users to generate high-quality, hyper-realistic synthetic images, and it can be used to:

  • Spread misleading and fake news
  • Generate images for fraudulent activities
  • Create malicious content

Generative AI models raise profound ethical concerns about authenticity, consent, and digital truth. To mitigate the risks regarding the disinformation and deepfake imagery, Google has promised to include a SynthID digital watermark for all the images created or edited with Gemini 2.5 Flash Image

Conclusion

Google Gemini AI Image Model will be stable in the coming weeks. OpenRouter.ai has partnered with Google to bring Gemini 2.5 Flash Image to the world. Google has also partnered with fal.ai to provide access to Gemini for a broader audience. All in all, it is a breakthrough in the world of image-editing and it may have raised genuine concerns amongst the creative graphic designers across the world. However, to move forward we have to embrace the technology and to ensure that everyone leverages generative AI ethically.
